This post doesn't really have much to do with Whipple DNA, but it definitely deserves being mentioned here.
- Genetic Antecedents of Captain John Whipple by Charles M. Whipple, Ph.D., Ed.D., who has been researching Whipples for some fifty years.
- Seeking the Origins of Captain John Whipple of Dorchester MA/ Providence, RI.
If you visit the landing page of this Whipple DNA blog, you will find that Y chromosome DNA tests of "known" descendants of the Ipswich MA and the Providence RI Whipples have concluded that there is no genetic biological relationship between between the two families (at least, as far as Y-DNA haplogroups go).
A check of Google Maps shows that a modern-day car can drive the 11.3 miles in about 19 minutes from Bocking (where the Ipswich Whipples immigrated from) and Great Waltham (where Captain John immigrated from). It isn't difficult to imagine that the two Whipple families might have at least heard of each other in the late 1500s and early 1600s?
It would be interesting to hear from present-day descendants of the two families, still living in the UK, if they exist ...
